Introduction
In democratic societies, political decision-makers are entrusted with shaping the lives of millions. Yet, as systems grow in size and complexity, decision-making drifts away from human experience and becomes increasingly abstract, strategic, and depersonalized.

Political scientists have long described Austria as a “Neo-Corporatist Democracy” (Pelinka, 2009), with opaque power centers and slow reform cycles.
Despite a small population, the country’s bureaucracy can feel immense. Decision-making is distant. Public trust is eroding — only 35% of Austrians trust political parties, according to a Eurobarometer survey (European Commission, 2023).

When governance (or product architecture) becomes too abstract, perceived legitimacy collapses. Transparency, feedback mechanisms, and direct participation tools are not “nice to have” — they’re essential to user trust.
